What we cover
How it started
Boat Biscuit began in 2022 as notes from first-time boat owners. We had just bought an 18-foot aluminum fishing boat, and we wrote down what we learned along the way: what a boat really costs to buy and run, why we chose aluminum over fiberglass, whether renting a slip was worth the money, and what a truck needs to tow it.
For a while the site leaned toward retirement planning, which is where our tagline, “Sail Into Retirement,” comes from. Today we’re back on the water, covering the boats, lakes, waterfront homes and coastal towns that make that next chapter worth planning for.

Jon escaped the rat race at 38. Since then he has made his living owning and writing a small handful of websites on topics that pique his interest. He’s fascinated by retirement in the many shapes it takes. Not doing nothing, but having the freedom to do what you want, when you want, ideally somewhere near the water. Jon holds a law degree (LLB) and an MBA.

Most lake and boating advice is one person’s opinion, or the same tips every other site repeats. Boat Biscuit gives you something better: what real readers actually love, choose and remember about cottages, boats and life on the water.
As you read, you can heart a photo, answer a one-question poll or pick between two cottages. Every tap is collected anonymously and pooled with everyone else’s, so over time you get real answers: which docks, boats and cabins people love, which old cottage traditions readers actually lived, and how lake people really spend their summers.
When enough readers have answered, the results show up right under the question and in our stories, so you’re reading what the community thinks, not just what we think.
